Speakers at the 2022 the World Vaccine Congress, hosted in Washington, D.C., USA April 18 – 21, implored global leaders to take concerted action to ensure global health and economic security for all before the next novel pathogen with pandemic potential emerges.  At the conference, experts from across all sectors of the vaccine ecosystem discussed the promise and potential of next-generation vaccine platforms, ongoing infectious disease challenges and the opportunity to learn from the COVID-19 pandemic to strengthen public health communication, health systems and overall preparedness. An African Agenda for Pandemic Preparedness and Response

Just Released: “An African Agenda for Pandemic Preparedness and Response”, Report and Policy Brief from Future Africa Forum and Pandemic Action Network.

Future Africa Forum and Pandemic Action Network partnered to form the Africa Pandemic Resilience initiative to “build a robust, resilient African health security architecture” that can equitably and efficiently response to future health threats. On April 26, 2022, these partners released a state-of-play report and related policy brief. Both reflect on lessons learned from recent health crises, such as Ebola and COVID-19, and present actionable recommendations for African policymakers to improve preparedness, expand capacity and ensure health security across the region. Initial Results from Novavax's COVID-19-Influenza Vaccine Trial are First to Show Feasibility of Combination Vaccine

Novavax announced promising initial results from the ongoing Phase 1/2 clinical trial of its COVID-Influenza Combination Vaccine (CIC). Thus far, CIC has produced well-tolerated responses that successfully stimulate the immune system. The combination vaccine, comprised of Novavax’s quadrivalent influenza vaccine candidate and COVID-19 vaccine NVX-CoV2373, would eliminate the need for separate seasonal vaccinations for the two (soon to be) endemic diseases; an advantage that could increase vaccine acceptance and accessibility, especially in settings with barriers to annual adult immunization.
